i have a power converter that was purchased 20 years ago, it allows me to use 110v electronics from japan with the 220v sockets here. the power supply is still functional but i remember hearing from the news every once in a while of people burning their house down while using very old electronics.

so i ended up calling my dad to ask him about this and he told me that my grandpa had an old CRT tv from the 80s that he refuses to throw away, before it eventually fried and knock out all the power in the house. so my dad too advises me to throw the power converter away and buy a new one, because its not safe for me to use anymore.

anyways i was wondering if its common sense for people to throw away really old power adapters and buy new ones? is my dad right in telling me to not use power plug that is too old?

thanks so much for letting me know!

It actually depends what is inside this "converter". It could be a simple transformer (is it heavy?) which could be sage, or it could have some electronics inside making it problematic.

What kind of equipment you must power? Most modern electronic devices are made "universal", working at both 110/120 and 220/240 voltages.

its a power converter that came with the japanese playstation 2 from two decades ago, it's about the size of an avarge man's fist. the specifications for the power converter are as follows:

input: 230V-50hz
output: AC110V-75w

the power converter weights about 1lbs, not very heavy.

the playstation 2 itself operates on 100v-47w 50/60hz, sadly.
