Is it safe to use a ddr3 1600mhz ram on GA-H61M-DS2 (rev. 5.0) with 1333 highest freq?

It is perfectly fine to do this. you will have to go into the bios to change the memory speed though. you can find how to do this in your motherboard manual.

but its already defaulted to run in 1333mhz..

It will work. Go into the BIOS TO CHANGE IT.

The specs on the motherboard manufacturers site state you yo9u can use memory speeds up to 2000mhz. Since 1600mhz is less then that...
