Hello there! I did not get any answers on the LTT forums so maybe I can find some help here instead.

Is it safe to use a homemade rubber and epoxy baffle attached to the expansion slots of a computer case and a 20 inch drum fan to pull air through 4 K80s?

Kinda like what this guy did but on a larger scale:

Unfortunately I have read somewhere that using household and industrial fans to cool a PC can generate dangerous static electric charges that can damage the computer and want to mitigate this risk without using smaller and vastly louder fans.

Thanks in advance.

Anybody answering this is just guessing. The only way to know is for YOU to experiment and report back. I assume this fan will be outside the case that the K80s are mounted. I would bond a copper strip in the air passage that you can ground. That should help with static.

I do not know how this multi-quote works so sorry in advance if I butcher this reply.

I'd use multiple case fans as opposed to one giant fan. If you can watercool, that'd be a better idea but that will cost more.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys but something broke on my car so until I get it priced out my plans have scaled back significantly.

Since it appears that I will not be able to afford a separate rendering computer I came up with the idea of putting only 3 of the cards in my computer and, using you advice, having 2 smaller fans pull air through the cards. Since they are PC fans I can route a cable to the powersupply and not have to manually fiddle with an external fan.

What do you think of this fan in particular?

An even simpler option is if I put two of the 120mm versions on the hard drive cage of my Corsair C70 and construct a simple aluminum baffle. How well do you think that will work?

Thanks in advance.
