It is only relevant if you physically examine the mounting screw holes and determine if there is or is not exposed solder at the screw hole. If there is, then the manufacturer expects that contact to be ground, tied back to rest of the ground traces.um okay its an old laptop motherboard if that helps?
Standoffs have two functions. They tie the ground plane (usually there is solder around the screw hole) and they provide physical support. IF your motherboard does not have any electrical contacts on the top or bottom of the board for the standoff to connect to, then it should be OK.I have a custom wood case built and need to know if I can just use normal plastic for standoffs
