I acquired a cracked Western Digital Black 500GB SN770 NVME SSD. It has 2 small cracks. I want to know if it's safe to use it.
Someone please tell me if something important might be damaged or the only thing damaged is useless material.
I'd probably take into account that NVMe drives can get pretty hot, so thermal cycles - the drive getting hot and expanding during use, cooling down and contracting when not - might cause the cracks to grow over time. So even if it's okay now, there's a danger that it'll fail or short out your port in future.
I dont know about you, but I see that crack running through some channels. Take it back, I wouldnt spend time on it unless you cant get a refund/replacement.
