I have gotten a System Unit as a package (EMAXX Mobo, AMD Athlon II X2 240, 2GB DDR3 and some other components) around 9 years ago. My system unit case is Astone Enforcer and it has a built-in PSU (branded as Astone Power Supply) rated 550W.
It's been running just fine. Around 4 years ago I replaced my Mobo, processor, ram, and hdd. Still it works just fine.
I'm using it the run the following system:
ASUS H61M-C
Intel Pentium G2030 (Ivy Bridge) @ 3.00GHz
4GB Kingston 1333MHz (2x 2GB)
500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM
500GB Toshiba 7200RPM
120mm LED Case Fan (2x)
Then using the same system above. I added a graphics card Palit GeForce GTX 750 Ti StormX Dual (2GB GDDR5).
While using my PC I noticed that my 2 LED case fans suddenly shuts down, but still the system does not hang or anything and I can continue to use it despite the fans shutting down.
I decided to remove one of my 500GB hard drive and the system runs just fine and my 2 LED fans continue to run even when gaming.
After a while, I changed my 2x 2GB ram into 1x Kingston HyperX (8GB) ram and also changed my processor to Intel Core i5 2500 (Sandy Bridge) @ 3.30GHz and my video card stops displaying anything but the GPU fan spins. I tried using the onboard GPU and it works.
While using my new CPU without the GPU, same symptoms happen again, the system runs just fine and Case fans suddenly shuts down.
I then noticed that my previous CPU is only rated 55W while my new CPU is rated 95W. I really think that the problem is in my PSU don't you think? Is it time to change my PSU?
