Is it time to switch to 4k?

I've been reading around on gaming on 4k, and using your pc with a 4k monitor, and the reviews are mixed for sure. I was expecting to find everybody excited about 4k, but that's not what I've found it seems... Currently I use an Asus VQ248QE, which is a 1080p 144hz monitor. Now I'm not sure if I should try and sell it for a 60hz 4k monitor.

I'm just not sure if 4k gaming is something I should be moving to already, or if I should hold off. Just looking for some input on what you think.

Unless you have a computer with i7 6700K and GTX 1080 (~$1500 system), don't bother with 4K gaming

That was my wonder, because im running an OC'ed 4790k and I have a 1070 in the mail.

The 1070 is just barely enough for 4K, I would recommend sticking to a nice 1440p monitor for now

That's like asking for a good BMW for less than $25000... You can find some 1440p monitors, but nothing I would suggest considering you already spent >$1300 on your computer

So for under $300 you'd reccomend a 144hz 1080p monitor, lets say a 27 inch. Over a 4k 60hz 28 inch?
Honestly, I've never seen a 4k panel in person, except for the tv's in bestbuy persay. So I'm not too sure if the higher resolution is truly that worth it?

I would never recommend a 27" 1080p monitor either, at least not unless you have a very deep desk and it ends up taking the same arc-area as a 24" monitor normally does. 4K doesn't make much sense for TV since at normal THX distances 20/20 vision can't actually tell the difference, but for computer monitors you usually end up sitting much closer than THX distances and can easily see the difference for text rendering

I'll have to look for the black one lol, not a fan of the red. I got my 1070 today and I love it, so I dont plan on switching anytime soon.
