There's nothing to upgrade a 9800Pro to! unless you want to swap it for a 9800XT, but that would label you as a bit of a moron, to be honest  .

Yes upgrade to what was the question. I’m a little rusty, but would guess to the FX 5950 or the 9800 XT if that’s ATi latest. If I’m not mistaking the XT isn’t much faster then my 9800 p, but what about the FX5950? As I notice playing some games the AA AF doesn’t really matter. Like in UT 4 I don’t notice any difference and NFSHP2 is such a demanding game with full details I have to mess with the AA AF settings. Once you start overclocking the card and playing with the settings more then the game it’s self it begins to look like it’s time to upgrade. So anyone care to answer how the FX 5950 compares to the 9800 P I already have in regards with using AA AF and not using it? I have a P4 2.8 @ 3.4 maybe it’s time to do something with that. I bought XMS 3200 memory, but that turned out to be a hair slower then my 2400DDR. Maybe upgrade my P4P800 mobo, but dang I don’t want a new system. Well there it is any upgrade suggestion?

Yeah I’m happy, just get frustrated when I have a hard time with full details. I maybe able to lower some settings and get acceptable play, but at the same time am disappointed I have to do that. I want all the eye candy I can get, but I also want it to be smooth as it can be. Right now only UT 4 is giving me problems. I start off at 100 FPS and even around 60-70 the play could be better. Then again I played games over 100 FPS and still wasn’t satisfied. Must be the games it’s self and I’m a bit particular, because if the game is 100% smooth it takes the enjoyment of playing away.

I have to agree. Upgrading a 9800 Pro now to a XT is not smart. Upgrading to a FX5950 is even worse. There are reasons that it could be called a step down IMO. You just have to wait for the next generation or I can't imagine you'll be happy for very long or maybe not at all. Have you OC'ed you R9800 Pro. If not, take the time to find it's max OC, back it down 10MHz and game on.

Here is some interesting reading that someone linked to last week:

Thanks for the link, looks like my 9800 P hasn’t been kick off the hill yet….. That’s cool. I just notice when I got UT 4 they had an advertisement of an Alienware system that was sporting the 5950 and I started to wonder. Anyways, I notice while playing UT 4 I was actually using over 512 mb of ram at some points, so I put the 3200 DDR I had in giving me 1024 of ram and that made a difference. I should be all set with some tweaking and should find a happy media. Thanks guys.

Latter he can try to upgrade to a Geforce4MX and then maybe even to a Voodoo3 3000, but for that he'd probably have to buy a new mobo that supports AGP2X and CPU to fit that mobo.

Abit IS7 @ 275 FSB, VAGP @ 1.65, OCZ PC4200 RAM @ 550Mhz, P4 2.4 @ 3.3Ghz Vcore @ 1.625, GeXCube Radeon 9600P @ 450/626.

I already played with a few MX cards, they never made it to my system thought. Never had a Voodoo3 card, but isn’t that an AGP card, if so I won’t need a new mobo, but incase I can save the mobo and CPU I was going to throw out.

UT 4 has been running a lot better, since I added more memory. UT I been playing for year’s right up to this day. UT 3 came along and I think it sucked, but had good graphics. I haven’t downloaded any new boards. As for UT 4 holey peep the graphics are amazing and the colors are crisp and clear, you would think your right there. They also added Deck 16, but is called 17 and also Facing worlds – Face classic. I’d give UT 4 two thumbs up so far and ATi for making it looks so spectacular. I think I died and went to UT heaven.

Have you tried the farcry demo? If not, wait until you see that on your R9800Pro. Don't try forcing AA/AF as it won't work. But pretty amazing looking game anyway.

You should definitely upgrade. You're definitely suffering and wasting the full potential of your PC.

Either sell your computer or upgrade. It's that simple. Right now your current rig is embarressing and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Stop being a disgrace to your parents and upgrade already!!!

Ok guys I got the message, lol, just checking. **** Since I put the extra 512 of ram in UT4 has froze up a few times. My memory settings aren’t the highest and it either boots or doesn’t and my 2400DDR is just slightly overclock, but now seems to freeze with the 3200DDR in there also. I turned up the speed to my intake/exhaust fans and it hasn’t freezes since, but now I can hear the fans a little more then I would like. Oh what to do what to do.
