Well, considering Ultra settings are giving $3000 setups much difficulty you might want to tone done your expectations a bit. Part of the problem is this is a Port and a bad one at that. :(

The Cheapest way "Medium settings"

16GB of DDR3 on eBay for $59

Total: $318.99

The more expensive way

The only thing that can fix game stability issues are GPU driver updates if Nvidia still is working on RDR2-specific optimizations and game patches, your best option may be to wait for a while and see what happens.

Too many game publishers rush half-baked releases to cash in on pre-purchases ASAP, which often yields launches that feel more like public beta.

It's much more than just Driver's issues, the problem that game is facing is API performance and stability. This was a rushed port and they did not take sufficient testing time.:tired: We turned in a buglog 10 pages long every few days and the major ones never got addressed.

Doesn't help that minimum recommended specs call for an older i7 4770k, meaning this game is thread heavy from the get-go and while 6400 does have higher IPC than the older 4th gen cpus, it's also a 3-legged blind dog of a 4 thread i5 that generally gets stomped on by the i3-6100, just based on clock speeds alone in 4 thread or lower games. It's just going to be slower still in 5+ thread games, so dumping the fps in the toilet.

In layman's terms, when it comes to RDD2, the 6400 is a blunt pocket knife, and you just showed up to a gunfight that'd tax an AK-47.

I was able to do low/medium settings on a 1300X with a 970 GTX, an i5 6400 should be a little faster. I've been testing this game well before launch with three different systems, even with all the performance issues if you do the workarounds low/Medium should be doable. RDD2 is having issues utilizing cores and swapping the load between the CPU/GPU so at lower settings your hard-pressed to notice the difference until they do some major patching.

4c/4t CPUs are hardly in their prime for most new games....

Rather than sinking more money into DDR3, I'd seriously consider taking the plunge into the Ryzen5-3600/B450/16 GB of DDR4 combo just like half the upgrading planet these past few months...

GTX1060 is still a respectable 1080P card, as I use one daily!

Can you explain the logic of pairing a x570 board with a ryzen 5? A b450 board or a cheap x470 board such as the msi x470 gaming plus will be cheaper and more practical for that cpu.

I5 6400 an I5 7400 in gaming terms are virtually the same, low and even low/medium settings are doable, this is with a GPU that is 8-9 fps faster on average than a 1060 6gb.

All of these are from the last 2 days so with constant patches things will change.

  1. Low to Low/Medium settings an i5 6400/7400 and a 1060 6gb are playable but not fantastic.
  2. Upgrading just the CPU/MB/RAM helps but it's not drastic for the price.
  3. A 1060 6GB regardless of what CPU you pair with it struggles beyond medium settings.

On a tight budget= RAM+ GPU preferable a 1070 TI or better
Better Budget= CPU/MB/RAM will give better low end fps.
Large Budget= Everything
