Is it true that crossfire still only works with fullscreen?

Hi, so I've been using crossfire for a few days now and I've noticed that my stress tests have been really inconsistent. On unigine heaven I noticed that both my gpus were running at 900mhz core clock, but on furmark only gpu1 was running at 900mhz while gpu2 was idling at 300mhz. After trying out different settings I changed the furmark resolution to fullscreen and my fps basically doubled and both my gpus were running at 900mhz. I did some research and found out that crossfire only works in fullscreen mode...which is a huge bummer. However, all the posts I found were rather outdated so I was wondering if this is still the case? Or has AMD updated their drivers to make crossfire support windowed mode as well? Thanks in advance.

I'm using 7850s if that helps anything.

The old answers are still correct. Crossfire only works in fullscreen mode.
