aopen ax59 pro (via) 1 MB L2 cache onboard.
AMD k6-2 550@560 (5*112)
voodoo 3 2000 AGP 16 MB
DIMM 100 MB PC 100

Is it true that I can't use L2 cache - 'couse if I enable (in BOIS) this pipeline stuff (L2 cache) then my windows 98 SE gives me protection error. (win me gave it too just as well).

Do I lose much in performance if I do not use this 1MB of L2 cache ???

thank U

It will improve performance quite a lot. The L2 cache on the motherboard is probably dammeged. Speak to your retailer about getting a replacement

have you tried this while not o/c your cpu.. i.e. at normal speed settings.
Memory bus is clocked faster to the way you are o/c now.

Hey man i dont know .. i just think i do !!

Maybe - but - sometimes I can buut up my windows - I don't remember what I did then but - I was able to buut up my 98 few times eaven if this pipeline was ENABLED - but - windows crached very soon (after I logged in).

Now - tell me is it possible to change this L2 cache on motherboard? or is it inside it - so well that I have to change the entire motherboard?

thank U

Are us sure it worked before ? at the time the pipelined burst caches were not always working flawlesly, there were even mainboards that had fake chips on them. Meaning there was no actual cache present when there should have been.

but since you said it may have worked before.... I personally have never seen defective cache memmory..

oh well sorry im not being of much help in this

OK - got so far now...

I can boot up my computer and windows 98 (NOT Se)
(and if machine boots up it eaven shows - on sime kind of table "Cache 1024") so I assume this cache is there. OK - but when windows is UP it acts really abnormal. gives me errors on and on - till it frozes up. what now...

1) I'll go home and I'll clock it down again as it shoud be 5,5*100Mhz=550

2) my friend has ecact same motherboard - but differend AGP videocard - I'll go see how his BIOS is set.

3) I'll sell my PC and I'll by new one... :)

OK - PC works now on normal settings (100*5.5) and I can ENABLE everything I like in BIOS (inclureing) Cache Pipeline - and windows 98 se does nor give me any errors.

BUT...

I do not see any huge difference in performance - my machine is still ~ as fast as it was. 3DMark (madonion) program on system info sheet eaven says (still) that L2 cache = not available. And SetiSpy says - that L2 cahe not available - but it also says "possible on motherboard". OK
tell me please what kind of program can tell me if this L2 cache is well, healthy and working - sisoft sandra?

Thank U
