Emachines ET1331G-07w
Specs on page 2 of this [ http://i.walmart.com/i/rb/0088448302532.pdf]
i want to upgrade it a bit for gaming... i dont have a big budget but im not playing very demanding games.. my most demanding one is magicka which doesnt even work on this pc lol but i bought it on steam for like $3 during a special :p

i prefer newegg and tiger direct but other sites are fine too
im on a fairly ow budget probably $400- $500

if you think it is not upgrade-able is it possible to scavenge parts from it and go from there? maybe buy new parts and put things like the hdd and dvd drive in instead of buying a new one?

All help appreciated :)

Upgradeable? No. It has a dual core Athlon II with DDR2 RAM and really bad integrated graphics. You can almost find a laptop for the same price that would be faster. Even in 2008 or 2009 this is a low end computer. Today it's just hopelessly outdated.

Something like this is a much better choice. 3.3Ghz dual core with Hyperthreading ( 2 cores 4 threads ) 8GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. You could add a power supply and graphics card when you get the money.

Forgot to add: Keep an eye on the good deal sites for anything on sale. These are the 2 I check every day.

Select the category at the top.

In fact ignore my recommendation in the last post. These are better deals although right on the edge of your budget. Booth have full size cases and would be upgradeable with a new power supply and graphics. Avoid the slimline case computers since they limit upgrades due to the small cases.

I am assuming your link is your current pc, and you are asking if you can upgrade it.

Biggest upgrades you can do are video card & psu (vid card will need better power supply), as you have the PCIEx16 slot. You will be limited going forward however, with that processor. More Ram might help but 4G is enough for most games. Magika should run with the Video card upgrade, but id have to verify specs for that game (i think it was 2Ghz single core)

You would probably be better served by getting a new video card, motherboard & CPU, and Power supply (400 - 500W depending on Vid card selected should be enough) and reusing the Emachine case, HDD & DVD drive to save money.

Windows is tied to the motherboard though, so you will need to reinstall that.

some rough pricing from newegg:
cpu&mobo bundle: Intel i3 or AMD quadcore = 150~200 usd
video card= 100-150 USD will suffice this range id go with Nvidia 550Ti or AMD 7770
spending less would still probably be an upgrade over what you have.
Power supply: expect to spend ~70-90 usd here for quality product. Im not good with the brands so maybe someone else will jump in for this recommendation.

sorry for no links, but theres lots of options in that 400-500 range.

*edited to include power supply in upgrade recomendation with vid card

I'm an idiot. I read your post as you were considering buying the PC you linked to not that you had it.

You could reuse the hard drive and DVD drive but really for around $500 I would just start over. You could probably get $100 to $150 selling that computer on ebay or Craigslist to add to your budget.

the first reply is nowhere even close to correct. while it is nothing close to top of the line, it IS upgradeable to support the latest games on medium settings with relative ease.

first of all, despite having an integrated gpu, it ALSO has a pci-x slot that can be used in conjunction with the integrated chipset. any NVIDIA pci-x card will work, but for any serious card you'll want a power supply upgrade.
comes stock with 4-6gigs ram and has room for more, and those are the only things you really need to worry about. will it play battlefield 4? yes. will it play it in HD at a level comparable to a ps4 or xb1? not without spending enough to start from scratch and build a new rig.

but, to play magicka, an $80 gpu from bestbuy and MAYBE two more gigs of ram and you should be more than adequate.

experience: I play bf4, d3, skyrim, and numerous others on this exact rig and all I added was a 2gig Geforce card that cost me $80
