So AMD has decided my current video card is now not worth new drivers, which means now i have to look into a new one if its worth it or a full upgrade.

Normally I would just go a new full system, but i would like to explore the idea of a small upgrade extra ram/new gpu

Current system Specs
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz (8 CPUs), ~4.0GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (with duel monitors)
Mother board: ASROCK Fa1ltality H97

is it worth me looking into a new GPU and more ram to make this 8 year old pc, play some more modern stuff , like battlefield , cod, totalwar ect
or am i just going to end up bottlenecking the new stuff and not get much out of it?

any recommendations on which GPU would suit?

Solution
Do I have to worry about any changes with the video card slot (PCIE?) on the Mother board

I am not aware of the 4th gen chipsets having any 'legacy' issues as related to a modern GPU. IMO your biggest concern would be the PSU age and wattage and whether it provides the proper connector for power.

In regard to GPU selection, you are surely aware that you can readily spend more on a high level GPU than the entire rest of a new system would cost. Given the age of the current system and in particular the current GPU it would be worthwhile to select something that has your next build in mind. I would consider that if you pick anything much beyond the ~3060 level (IMO) that you will see the limitation of your older CPU. From a cost...
I feel like 16GB is probably a good amount of RAM, unless you can find a matched set of DDR3 somewhere on the cheap.

As to GPU, YES a newer GPU would do wonders for performance. You wouldn't have to climb up very high for something that would outperform that R9 these days.

If you decide to go full upgrade you would need to get a gpu.

So get the gpu now and test with your orig parts.
It might work well enough that you can delay the full upgrade.

Are you sure you need more ram?

From a cost perspective, going anything beyond that at the moment just seems ludicrous.

If it were my picking to do, and planned to keep that system for a bit, I would probably look for something like 1080, 1660ti, perhaps 20xx series on the used market.

Solution
I just got a new PSU 2 days ago (750 W , gold rated) , last one just got blown by lightning less then a week ago.
the idea of the 2nd hand market seems interesting, i might do that so i can keep the system going for a bit.

thanks for the info
