Hey,

As of right now this is my system:

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz

GPU - EVGA 01G-P3-1373-AR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked EE 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0

RAM - G.Skill DDR2 800 4GB

Mobo - GIGABYTE GA-MA785G-UD3H AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

HDD - 650GB 7200rpm

I am wondering if it is worth it to upgrade my mobo and ram to this:

It would be a 74$ upgrade after rebates..

Would I see a big performance increase in games like Tera etc? People have said my RAM might be bottlenecking my CPU or GPU.

I wouldnt upgrade the CPU or GPU yet, im going to ride them out till they are completely useless, so at least another year or 3 before I upgrade and build a whole new PC.

So is it worth it to do this quick 74$ upgrade? or should I just wait 1-3 years when I build a new pc?

Thanks.

Guys, the very topic of this thread is asking if upgrading the motherboard to get DDR3 support is worth the money. OP knows that his/her board does not support DDR3 and is asking if upgrading the motherboard, making a memory upgrade possible, is worth the money.

IMHO, it is better to save the money to buy a new motherboard, cpu, ram(next gen) than just the minor upgrade. You can buy a SSD as boot drive to speed up the system, it will be the better investment imo or the Seagate Hybrid drive to have faster boot up and launch time for applications. Upgrading to DDR3 will not have significant performance increase. SSD and Hybrid drives do save you time.
