Is it worth it now to go from DDR2 to DDR3?

On an extreme low budget i run a phenom II X4 965 and a Geforce GTX660 on a old motherboard with 8 Gb DDR2. (am2+)
I works surprisingly well, Battlefield 4 on low graphics is still enjoyable (don't believe the ultra hype!)

Anyways, got a great deal on a slightly used am3 motherboard for DDR3 and the questions now is: 1. is it worth it buying 8-16 Gb DDR3 (and maybe a better CPU) how much gain?
2. is it better to skip DDR3 and go for a new platform based on DDR4?

/Thanks in advance :)

Solution
It's not so much whether or not to skip DDR3 to go to a DDR4 platform, but, I think, more of an issue as to whether to skip AM3 and go for Kaby Lake or AM4.

It is not worth it to invest in a CPU for an AM3 board.

I believe performance gain going from DDR2 to DDR3 will likely not be noticeable.

Thanks for your advice guys, and I know you are right. At this Point it better to make an investment, but I hoped for more incremental upgrades I could get cheap on ebay...
