Hi,
I have a AMD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition. Is it worth crossfiring another one in. I have a 1600x900 monitor right now but I might upgrade, but for now how much of a performance increase would I get x2 7870s?

Solution
You should take in consideration some facts before thinking about crossfire:
* You'll need a 700W + PSU.
* Check compatibility with the Motherboard, case etc'.
* AMD crossfire depends a lot on the drivers you install, and had many problems with them before.
* Not many games are compatible with crossfire, so you'll have to disable the crossfire to play some.

As for performance, you can't really know what impact will the crossfire have on games, for example BF4 is optimized for AMD gpus and most crossfires i've seen gain about 75% more fps, on the other hand Metro Last Light gained like 15%. (it doesn't mean you'll get the same results).

If you have the possibility of getting a single better card that is like 280X/GTX 770 and above i...
Alright cool so if I crossfired what kind a AMD GPU would it be equivalent to?

You need to remember not all games support crossfire, so in some games your crossfire HD 7870 will just be a single HD 7870, but in games that do, it'll be an equivalent to a R9 290, plus a little in others it may just be a HD 7970 GHz. But beware of the crossfire issues such as micro-stuttering, and also the extra head and power-consumption.

That's a pretty nice increase! What kind of games do you think aren't optimized with crossfire? I should be fine with new games now, they usually support it right?

There are quite a few, ACIV is the only one I remember now. But when I had dual HD 7850's, I saw no increase in the witcher, GTA IV, Metro Last Light suprisingly.

Thanks I'll probably have to get a new PSU, and okay well I could really care less about Metro Last Light, lol 😛 but I see what you mean. I think crossfire will get better as we progress and I think it's worth the upgrade. Thanks!

Witcher 2 should probably support it. GTA IV is a little old and I'm not surprised it's not supported, plus a AMD Radeon HD 7870 should be more than capable of running GTA IV or Witcher
