Is it worth it to make a old server into a gaming build?

So, I found a old server with dual Opteron 2376:s (quadcore) so with 8 logical cores. How would this translate into gaming performance?

it would perform on par with a budget AMD gaming rig from 2012. So depends. Yes you can turn into a gaming build and if you are getting it for dirt cheap then it'll suffice for basic gaming needs like CS:GO and LoL. But otherwise no, it is not worth it. But then again, how much is it?

Could you give me a cpu to compare it to? If you mean like core 2 quad q6600 performance then I would probably be happy :D

Only if it is free, and you will accept 5 year old performance.

Daily, we see people here trying to make a 'server' into a gaming system.
Just because it is (was) a powerful system, does not make it powerful for all applications.
Similarly, you wouldn't take a good gaming system from 5 years ago and turn it into a database server.

Even worse are the ones who buy a thin blade server (Dell 2950, for instance), and then discover how LOUD they are.

Dual opterons, 3x 73gb 15.000 hdd's and up to 64gb ddr2 ram

Yeah I would take that for free, but never for money.

I've had a taste of a non working fan controller with a old fan. Horrible.
