Is it worth it to upgrade to DDR4

I'm going to upgrade my CPU and MOBO to a i7 7700k and I have two motherboard options.

1. Upgrade to a 170 chipset and use my current 16gb DDR3 RAM.

2. Upgrade to a 270 chipset and drop an additional $100+ on 16GB DDR4 RAM.

I am leaning towards option 1 and this is why: The difference between DDR3 and 4 are too small for me to notice. The only reason to go with the DDR4 would be to give me more options in the future. The problem with that is that I believe that by the time I need to upgrade my RAM, I will also need to upgrade my CPU as well. I think that by then, we will have moved past the socket 1151 and I would have to get a new mobo anyway. basically, I think that the DDR3 RAM will last longer than the 7700k.

Can anyone give me reasons to go with option #2?

Issue with #1 you'll need a skylake processor to upgrade the bios on a z170 board to get it to work with a kaby lake processor. Your ddr3 is too high voltage and may burn the memory controller up. It supports ddr3l (l for low voltage) you don't have that most likely. If you're going to spring for a $350 processor don't cripple the thing
