Is it worth it to upgrade?

Is it worth it to upgrade from an EVGA GTX 770 SuperClocked to a 980 SuperClocked? It would double my VRAM from 2GB to 4GB and it is a more powerful GPU. I got GTA V on PC recently and I can max out the settings but not without going from 60FPS 90% of the time to about 30 or 40 FPS with stuttering every now and then. Basically what I am asking is is there another NVIDIA GPU coming down the pipeline this year that is new and worth waiting for over the 980? Could a 980 handle 4K?

Thanks.

The 980Ti will be released at the end of summer, it is a Titian X with 6GB of GDDR5. It should be the top end card of the 900 series, then on to Pascal with HBM.....rumor has it the price will be around $700.

But yes, a 980 would be a nice bump up from a 770 if that is the way you want to go, much faster with lower temps and power...

Yes and no. Yes it is going to be night and day, but no, forget 4k. 4k is only viable with dual GPU setups. With the 390x around the corner that will correct a lot of the lack of memory issues at 4k, I might just tell you to wait a month or two before buying anything.

Where did you get June? I have been trying to find some release dates for AMD but can't see anything reliable. I hear the 370 will be first out followed by the 380 & 390. The 390 will be the only one with a new core (Fiji) and HBM, all of the others are old cores renamed with GDDR5. I don't think we will see a single core solution form either Green or Red this generation for 4k, but perhaps a new duel core card with Maxwell or Fiji could do the trick.

Nvidia says Pascal will be a HUGE performance leap over Maxwell, I hope Fiji is that HUGE leap sooner than later if they ever get around to letting us know what it can do.
