Well, I'm not 100% familiar with either cpu and I don't have time to look right this second, but WoW is a pretty cpu intensive game surprisingly. So, it's never a bad thing to get a beefier cpu for it.

Looks to be about a 12% performance increase. So I suppose you'll have to evaluate whether 12% vs whatever cost you're paying is worth it. However out of the games you listed WoW is the only one you'll notice a difference on.

Also just for the record, render resolution doesn't really affect cpu usage much.

Well considering you would have to get a new motherboard+new ram for the new cpu to work I'd go for something else all together unless you are getting a killer deal. Are you experiencing any performance issues at all? I know DoTa and LoL are quite easy to run but I haven't played WoW in over 10 years so not sure how that behaves now.

Respectable
To go from a gen3 to a gen6 Intel CPU you're going to need a new mobo and ram, depending on the price you're paying for the upgrade. The 6gen CPU will give you a better gaming experience and paired with a decent GPU will keep you gaming at a reasonable level for several years to come.

As it would require a new motherboard and ram, the i5 6600 is a poor choice. An i3 8100 is cheaper, similar, if not better, performance, and current gen platform.
