I have a GTX 1070 ASUS ROG STRIX , and this card is a beast running all my games ultra 1080p, but all my friends suggest i overclock it , why would i do it when it works and runs all games 60 fps+. I know its free extra horse power but is it worth the running stability benchmarks for hours ?

If you perform all the games in the way you want. Absolutely not. You're effectively pumping more power into a component to increase its performance. If you're performance is adequate, why add more? In addition to this, you're also adding more stress onto the component. And poorly controlled overclocking ultimately reduces the lifespan of your components.

It's like boosting a gaming PC 16GB of RAM to 32GB because more is always better right? No. Most games nowadays don't even touch 16GB so effectively you're just caching another 16GB+ of RAM.

So if you WANT more performance, go for it (but please do read up on it as so many people can do it badly). But if you're happy with the way it currently performs. No. But GPU overclocking is...

No. But GPU overclocking is typically a lot safer than CPU overclocking. And in some games, you may see a 5-10fps increase by overclocking a 1070 ROG. But it also depends on the rest of your rig.

Hey thanks for the reply, and your right , why push a gpu to its limits when it performs just fine at current resolution, also i may overclock my cpu ( 6600k) as in some games ( Bf1) its at 100% usage whiel gpu at 40-60%, it may bottleneck some games at 1080p and i will learn how to overclock a cpu safley rather than doing it now and applying 4 volts lol

Happy to help sir!

And sounds reasoable, just remember to be cautious above all else, make sure you're components can live up to it. You'll want a decent 3rd party cooler, keep your case clean and in a cool location, and a way of measuring temps regularly for stability. Check for stability and stress test after each boost.

I'm sure you'll be pumping more FPS out of your games in no time! Practice makes perfect with overclocking, so do it to the book and you'll be fine. Happy gaming!
