Just got a new GTX 960 OC a little under two weeks ago, so it is still in its return period. The store I bought it from is a little over an hour away from where I live, so it would be a pretty significant trip. I know that both the cards are $200, so would it be worth it to drive over an hour to exchange the 960 for the 380?

Power is no issue for me. I have a 750 Watt Corsair (overkill I know lol) Good video though!

IF u plan on Overclocking the R9 380 might be worth it imo u should check and see how good your current card OC's if u can do 1500MHZ might as well keep it lol

the R9 380 will shine if u can get one to hit 1200MHZ on the core my 7950 did 1300MHZ on the core but now the fans went dead and only turn on at 70% manual 🙁 oh well it lasted almost 4 years running games at ultra/high no AA

TL;DR they are nearly equal on power difference being games where AMD is prefferd AMD will scale better Gameworks games will run better on Nvidia Hell even game works Gimps Nvidia down

if u just care about hairworks u can just run it on AMD cards with 8X tessellation thats why i do

EDIT: looks like the R9 380 does a bit better than the R9 285 maybe coz of the Drivers/Enhanced clocks

IMO get a R9 380 and Overclock it a bit dont touch the Voltage just slide the Powerplay to 20% and see how far it goes if u get 1100 on the core thats good nuff IMO

The frame rates of these cards on most games is near identical at 1080P. On Nvidia-optimized games the 960 might be a couple fps better at 1080. There are only 30 watts difference in power draw so it shouldn't be any issue. The R9 300 has more future potential. Especially if you increase your resolution above 1080p. This is where the R9 300 will shine over the GTX 960. If you have a 960 with 2gb and you swap it for the 4gb R9 300, my opinion is that it's worth it.
