Is it worth to upgrade from i7 4790k to i5 7600k

Just like the title says, is it worth it. P.S. I wont be overclocking so that should not be taken into consideration.

Less heat generation, less energy being used. More efficient architecture.

They are both very good CPU's (And according to benchmarks the i5 is ever so slightly better.), but it's not worth it. Other than less heat generation and maybe higher clocks, these chips perform very similarly.

Absolutely NO. Why would you downgrade a Core i7 to a Core i5? Even going from an i7 4790k to an i7 7700k is such a small increase in performance that you wouldn't even notice any difference between the two.

I'd say no. Any slight ipc improvement the i5 7600k has the 4790k makes up for in clock speed out of the box. I'd say up to 4.2ghz in the kabylake cpu and up to 4.4ghz on the devil's canyon should be about equal. The 4790k has ht and 2mb more cache.

The reviews are showing newer games and other software utilize HT and more cache on the i7s these days. You would actually downgrade your gaming performance and encoding, ect. I ordered an i5 7600k myself for my Z170 build, as it currently has a locked i5 6500 installed. I was surprised to see the reviews regarding this.

Ryzen 5 is set to release sometime in the spring, so if your budget is 200-300 dollars, it would make a lot more sense to wait for that. Ryzen 5 1600x is going to cost 259 i think, and it will most likely kick both 4790k's and 7600k's butt.

to fit 300$, he needs CPU well under 200$ to fit RAM and MB in whatever left after CPU.

There is no practical reason whatsoever to upgrade from i7, especially overclockable, for gaming purposes.
