Is it worth upgrading from a 1060 to 1070?

I currently have an Asus Strix 1060 OC 6gb. Right now this card is great, but I'm concerned that it isn't as future-proof as I had assumed when I made the purchase. Admittedly I put very little thought into it. I was also on a tighter budget than I am now.

I just want to have solid performance without the need to upgrade for maybe 2-3 years.

Im running a triple monitor setup (all 1920x1080) with my primary display at 144hz. I use my rig mostly for gaming and some video rendering/photoshop.

Some of the games I play: Arma 3, Fallout 4 (w/ high res texture pack and ENB), CSGO (framerate capped at 300fps), and ESO. I do wish to play Star Citizen as well, once it is out of alpha.

Am I underestimating my 1060, or am I right in thinking that this card won't last long for my needs?

Specs:
i5- 6600k at 4.9ghz
16gb RAM at 2800mhz
Asus Strix NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
600w PSU
Sound Blaster Z Soundcard

If you're happy with the performance dont change it. There is no such thing as future-proofing (well, maybe with power supplies). After a year the next gen gpu-s will be released and gtx 1070 will be like gtx 970 now.
So, in my opinion: change it when you need more performance. The price will be lower or there will be newer generation gpus to choose from.

To answer your question: You will have performance gains if you upgrade to gtx 1070 now.

I wouldnt say future-proofing doesn't exist. Getting a mobo that has LGA 1151 socket is better future proofing than getting an LGA 1150.

And the next year newer gen cpu-s with new socket are released. And your mobo is old again 😀

I think I am going to wait until prices lower and a new line of gpus are released, but I am still curious about how many years of good performance i'd get with a 1070 vs a 1060. I realize that we can't know for sure but I'd still like to get your opinions.

If you keep the resolution to 1080p my guess for gtx 1070 is less than 2 years ultra settings 60fps. As far for gtx 1060, it reaches 60fps ultra in most of new games. But with 2017 AAA titles you will have to lower the settings a little to keep constant 60 fps.

In my opinion ultra settings are not necessary to enjoy a game.

Yea ultra settings isn't necessary for me. I'll probably be keeping this 1060 for at least another year though. Curious to see how Vega and the 1080Ti will affect prices of other cards as well..

no, i mean if you bought LGA 1151 back when it came out. Rather than 1150 like i did cause i didnt know anything. That would be much more future proof.
