Is it worth upgrading from a Haswell i7 to a Skylake i7?

Hello Tom's Hardware.

So that's the question on the title, is it worth it?

I don't have the motherboard, nor RAM for the new i7, so I'll have to pay for that as well, is it worth it? What are the main benefits of the new DDR4 RAM? I just game and do the casual stuff.

Specs:
- OS: Windows 10
- CPU: Intel Core i7 4790 (non K version)
- RAM: 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
- GPU: GeForce GTX 970

If you are a harcore gamer then yes. I would not see a superb sifference. A new gpu and cpu at the same time might do it

No. The gains are marginal.

I agree , not worth it as gains are minimal.

If you are building a new system, no reason not to go with Skylake.
If you already have a good working Haswell system, no reason to upgrade that to Skylake.
