I've an old system set up for the kids that has an i7-4790 with 16gb DDR3 RAM and running a GT 1030 graphics card. It is used mainly for general use with a little light gaming for my son (Minecraft & Fornite). It is a SFF factor with no additional 6+2 pin for a stronger graphics card plus, its adequate for what he needs.

The main question I have is that I potentially have access to a SFF i5-9500 with 8gb DDR4 ram. It too has no additional pins for a stronger graphics card, so would be transferring the 1030 into it. Is this a big enough step up to make it worthwhile? My admittedly limited understanding is that whilst its an old chip now, the i7-4790 is still a very capable processor. However, is the DDR3 a hugely limiting factor compared to DDR4 with the newer i5-9500? Thank you.

Solution
Nah. Not worth it.
i7-4790/16gb DDR3 is better than i5-9500/8gb DDR4. With same amount of ram they'd be similar.
i7-4790 is 4 core/8thread cpu, i5-9500 is 6core/6thread cpu.
