I currently have 8 gigs of ddr3 ram, a gtx 960 2 gig and an fx 6300 cpu. I play gta v at very high textures, 1080p resolution and most of the other settings maxed (besides ones that that do much and use a lot of vram) and I go above the gta v vram limit in settings by about a .5 gig and I get decent fps (45ish). Would it really be worth upgrading to let's say a gtx 970 or 1070 when it comes out with out upgrading the rest of my system and getting a 4k monitor? Would a 970 or 1070 really do much better at 1080p and with my current cpu?

GTA V 2015

970 GTX

low 1024x768 167.9 fps
med. 1366x768 159 fps
high 1920x1080 97.8 fps
ultra 1920x1080 39.8 fps

960 GTX

low 1024x768 147.3 fps
med. 1366x768 146.1 fps
high 1920x1080 69.8 fps
ultra 1920x1080 28.3 fps

A 970 is a lot faster ...its probably not worth it , Unless you buy a used one for $200 and sell your 960 for a good price

If you can hold out for a 1070 or a second hand 980 / ti even better.

Your Biggest bottleneck is the AMD CPU

I'm in the same boat with my GTX 960 and also at 1080p. I am thinking that nothing less than a 1070 to get the WOW it was worth it factor and also then moving to a nice 1440p 27 in monitor.

A 1070 will max most anything for a bit at 1080p I imagine but we will see when the reviews hit.

Cheers!

Not anything I can do about the cpu unless I get a new motherboard and that plus a cpu is a few hundred dollars. I could upgrade to an 8 core and fx cpu though. Also I got my 960 from microcente so i can return it for a full refund and upgrade (I got the 2 year warenty) I was eyeing the zotec 970 for 270 dollars but I feel like I would just get the 1070 a few months later so idk. I probibly wont ever get a 2k or 4k screen for a while expensive there expensive as hell, I'll get one in a few years when the price drops most likley.
