Yes the i5 dominates it completely. The only thing the Fx really stands a chance in is editing and rendering because of its multiple cores

The difference would be around 40%. What GPU are you using? It's usually the GPU that bottlenecks.

40% difference even if the 6300 is OC'd to 4.1ghz?

Quad-core is the most used in modern games, so we'll go by that.

The FX 6300 has 234 pts in 3.5GHz
The OCed FX 6300 has 275 pts at 4.1GHz

The i5-6500 has 381 pts.

Thats a 38% improvement in speed at quad-core. It's a pretty big increase, but not worth it unless your GPU is very powerful.

Single core improvement is 25%, and multicore is less then 1%.
