So i recently upgraded to and rtx 2070 ( from an rx 480 asus 4gb) with an i5 7600, i did this expecting a slight bottlneck in some games, but tbh i didnt think it would be as bad as it is, in cpu intensive games. For the least money possible what would be the best option to remove this bottlneck. would getting an i7 7700k remove it? or would it be necessary to upgrade my mobo and go for a newer AMD cpu,
I have a corsair vs-550w psu, 16gb gddr4 2x8 2400mhz, ssd, hdd, asus b250k-prime mobo, gigabyte rtx 2070 and i5 7600.
also i play at 1080p not really interested in upgrading resolution, i know it may be overkill to have a 2070 for 1080p but i play a lot of poorly optimised alpha games like star citizen etc.
Same thing happend to me too. And I was also expecting an important bottleneck but yeah, kinda made me cry back then, when switching from a GTX 1060 6GB to RTX 2070 on my old Core i5 3570 and seen only a really, really small diference in performance for such a huge jump in GPU.
In fact I knew that my GTX 1060 was been held back by the Core i5 3570 but I really didnt knew it was that bad.
As for why I did what I did well the idea was to get the RTX 2070 + the Ryzen 5 3600 togheter, but the CPU was delayed in my country so I ended up with the GPU a few weeks earlier.
I already knew my brother was going to buy the GTX 1060 from me so I thought, Why not gettting the RTX now and end enjoy it a bit earlier.
Anyways, the good thing was that I was already expecting this, so upgrading to a R5 3600 a few days later was all I need it to get amazing AVG and 1% low FPS out of the new RTX 2070. Back then I was using a 1080p panel and the FPS diference was HUGE, specially the 1% low which for me are what represent the gameplay smoothness.
And as others said, yeah the Core i7 7700/7700K should be a nice replacement, but i will be carefull about what you pay for an used CPU.
As it was mention already you may be able to buy a new Core i5 10400 + motherboard or a Ryzen 5 3600 + motherboard for the same price. You can always upgrade the RAM later, and for Ryzen and 10th gen intel is really worth it (for 10th gen intel not soo much if you go with a B460 mobo which is limited to only 2666MHz official intel speed).
