Is it worth upgrading i7-4790k?

Built my machine in 2015. Running i7-4790k@4GHZ and gtx 970.
Want to know if it's worth upgrading CPU?
If so, what would be a better upgrade?
If not, Should I wait - if so how long?

nope its just fine for now with that cpu for gaming..... replace it after 3 years

one thing to note is the mad memory prices right now, i'm looking to move from a 3570k with 16GB to coffee lake, but the memory will be a much bigger portion of the budget than i'd like, and right now I have no symptoms.

Unless you need more cores, definitely not. Still a VERY strong CPU.

It's not worth it yet to upgrade that CPU. You might consider upgrading your graphics card soon though. In a year or so maybe.

If you're purely a gamer, then as above, the 4790K still has lots of life in it.

If you do any multi tasking & productivity, Ryzen is very good and there's also the upcoming i7 8700K
