Is it worth upgrading my dual-SLI GTX 1080's for two GTX 1180 turings?

If I'm still gaming at ultra spec/1920x1080 with my two-way SLI GTX 1080's, would upgrading to two GTX 1180 (Turing microarchitecture) when they area released later this year?

Solution
I get occasional nasty fps drops with Deus Ex Mankind Divided when running in Crossfire that don't manifest with a single card.

As for the 1180, we don't know what the performance will be yet. Rumours suggest it's more of a 'refresh' on 12nm with higher clocks and GDDRR6, than anything else. If that is all, then I wouldn't recommend an upgrade from a 1080 as the performance increase won't justify the outlay. In my opinion.

I still get fps drops in games like Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Grand Theft Auto 5, Doom 2016, and a few others..

And I thought that the successor to pascal was going to be Volta, where did Turing come from?

You'd be wasting money at that resolution. A single 1080 is usually plenty @1080p.

FPS drops and stuttering often occur with SLI setups; I wouldn't use that as your trigger for upgrading. I'd try those games with SLI disabled and see how the performance is. I don't get noticeable FPS drops with my 1070/980Ti/1080 systems with those games @1080p or @1440p.

2 1080gtx is not overkill even 1080p I own 41 games
fps
3rd person shooter
and open world 2014 - 2018
23 sli
REASONS FOR SLI 1080GTX
1.- 2 can just about always do 100 fps on ultra 99% of time
2 - Card frame times (not fps) if all 3 is done right monitor 144 1ms fast ms mouse kB input all fast feels lag less and it's faster 7- 11 avg 7-9 avg ms ms vs 11-17 1 video card
3-Avg game fps 120 144+ I cap to 144 other wise higher
4 - Alot of games run both cards in SLi in my 1080gtx @ 75%- 98% per card in use much more than last 2 sli lines that 680Sc 470s come long way
5- games alot jump all over the place in fps 75 -144 fps, feel sloppy, un even fps makes less smooth Same game with you stay near 144 way smoother better looking

SLi you feel part of the game is Extension of your body because it's so smooth and input times are great
9 out of 10 games 1080p game ultra setting max aa Vsync on
Avg 100 - 144+ fps,
Dips108 - 114fps max 138 144 I cap

My 2016 pc setup high end ish 1080gtx was just on self 2 weeks 699 each

Extreme i7 6850k 3.6, 6 core 15mb @4.4 looped corsair cooling
32GB DDR4 PC 3000@3150 G Skill Rips jaws
EVGA 1080Gtx SC SLi @2114/5508
2 SSD 2X480GB on SATA 6GB on
RAID 0 ram cache

BTW NEW XX80 NEVER BEAT SLI
