Is it worth upgrading my battered old ASUS K43SJ?
,i5,2GB ram,600GB hard drive. Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2401 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)

Will it take 8gb RAM, 240gb SSD drive, and 1+TB external HD??
for 100 quid, Is it worth it?
Will it run cooler and quieter?
What is the fastest memory that would work?

Could you spend 100 quid and get a better laptop? I don't think so. Upgrade to 8gb ram and the SSD, install 64bit windows and your battery will last longer and your system will be faster. As long as you get DDR3-12800 you should be fine.
If you want to stick with 32bit windows, upgrade to 4gb ram.

All three no problem but no good upgrading RAM to 8GB unless it's running 64-bit Windows.

Thanks. I upgraded to 4gb already, I thought that was the most it would take.
I am running windows 7 64bit,

It often seizes up, using 3gb memory, but I think its a services/windows update problem
