Right now i have a fx-6300 and was wondering if one of the new Skylake i3s would out perform this processor. Looking at the i3-6100 or i3-6300, i was looking at comparisons but they were using DDR4 ram or ram clocked around 2300mhz and i only have ddr 3 at 1600mhz. So is it worth upgrading if i don't have DDR4 or high quality ram. I am asking because i read that the new skylake really makes use of the DDR4 and higher speeds of ram and if i don't have that it wont out perform my current CPU.

the i3 will be a very good upgrade. and when games finally learn to use 4+ cores you can make a worthwhile upgrade from that i3
ram speed dosn't make too much of a difference however the i3 6300 will game MUCH better than a fx6300 on all games that use less then 4 cores (almost every game). you could also go to a i5 that supports ddr3. it will save a bit of money and will easily outperform the fx you have.

Yea i play mmos and CSGO and the fx-6300 runs GW2 poorly even paired with my r9 280x. Also the i3 -6100 is on sale for $108

i would get the i3 it will preform significantly better for gaming.

I would get an i5 but since i need to upgrade motherboard as well it will be way cheaper since the i3 is on sale

I have been reading even an OCed fx gets beat out by an i3

what game will use 6 cores efficiently? and its not quite a lot less powerful it is just about the same when hyper-threading is enabled. the i3 can even beat the fx on some multi-core benchmarks

Yea i was looking at this as well. I am pretty convinced on getting the i3
