Is LGA 1151 processor compatible LGA 1150 motherboard?

Was thinking of buying an Intel i5 6600k CPU for my PC. The processor is an LGA 1151 and my motherboard is an LGA 1150 socket so need to know if they're compatible before I buy the CPU? Any help would be useful

No, it needs a matching LGA 1151 socket. They are physically incompatible.

Look into a Haswell/Haswell Refresh CPU. If you want an unlocked i5 4690k or 4670k, whichever you can find cheaper. Which motherboard do you have?

It is not compatible even if it is one pin difference.

The numbers need to match up. Cpu's that have "1150" written with we NEED an 1150 socket motherboard. This rule goes for all Cpu's and motherboards. An 1151 Cpu needs a 1151 Motherboard.
