FX-8350 is a hot processor.
If it came with the new wraith cooler, you could go ahead and try it.
Since you still have your asetek cooler, you could try that too and see how you do.
I might caution you that if you used an inexpensive motherboard with your previous FX-4300, you are unlikely to get good results from your FX-8
What is your motherboard?
Gigabyte GA-970A-D3.
I recently bought a GTX 1070 and since then I have been down a rabbit hole due to my failure to remember the most important issue of all: bottlenecking. My idea was that I buy the Fx-8350 in the meantime, and deal with a moderate bottleneck, as it was fairly cheap, and then save up for the next year to buy a new intel motherboard and processor. I have checked and know that my mobo is compatible with the 8350, but as for how well it pairs with it, I don't know.
Looks like you will have issue;

Do not throw good money after bad and buy a new amd motherboard.
If you can, return the FX-8350.
You can buy a i3-6100 for $125, a lga1151 motherboard for $50 and 8gb of ddr4 ram for $35.
Here is what it can do compared to a FX-8370:
