Question Is malwarebytes (not premium) good enough for security?

I know I have to use my brain so don't call up stupid posts. I'm asking if it is good enough for basic defense as I occasionally download things and I'm in a rush so I forget to double check its history like when I installed a PUP with another piece of software using softpedia. Lol I accidentally used that when there was the official install directly below it.
