I'm building my first gaming pc and they have some very appealing motherboards and graphics cards. But I see a lot of people saying bad stuff about them a few years ago. So would I be safe with a MSI motherboard and GPU?

Solution
MSI, gigabyte, evga, asus, zotac, and basically every other brand are exactly that. Brands. Vendors. Slightly different modifications made to the reference GPU or mobo chipset specifications either by AMD/INTEL, NVIDIA.

All these different "brands" have slight variations on the original design, all built in the same factory. Basically the only difference between them is warranty, color schemes and packaging.

My advice, don't listen to brand fanboys. Take into consideration, price, warranty and aesthetics.

MSI Z97-G45 is pretty good. MSI Z97-G65 is also good but check if you need anything extra that the MSI Z97-G45 doesn't have.
MSI Z97-Gaming 7 will be one of the top end of the gaming series. It is overkill for most people.

I will disagree with this statement regarding to motherboards. You can get bad MSI motherboards that is not good for overclocking. There are different power phases design which will affect how far you will overclock.

"not good for overclocking" does not mean a bad brand or board.
Just not suited for that specific use.
