I have this configuration currently:
CPU: Athlon II X2 250
MB: MSI MS-7641
RAM: 4GB DDR3
GPU: Some Radeon

I only use my computer for browsing the internet and watching videos online, but the computer is very slow at times and can hang sometimes for a long time, so I'm looking to upgrade.

I will be getting 4 more GBs of ram, but an opportunity has come up to get a AMD FX-6300 for about $35 (it's in my home country's currency, translates to about $35, at any rate it's quite cheap).

I'm wondering:

  1. Does my MB support that CPU?
  2. Is that CPU significantly faster than my current one? Would it be worth it paying that money for it, or could I find better bang for my buck?

By MSI MS-7641 I'm assuming the actual motherboard model is: 760GM-P23 if I'm not mistaken? If so:

  1. Yes it does - just potentially want to check if you need a later BIOS.
  2. It is signficantly better than the X2 250, but obviously still not great overall for modern day tech. For $35, you're getting a much better performance CPU than your current regardless. (Assuming your CPU is currently your limitation.)
Also just remember adding more RAM to your current RAM is not guaranteed compatibility.
