Is my 120mm side intake a waste of a fan?

first of all make your top 140mm as intake .second front intake is a very important thing.
for a positive airflow just a back exhaust rolling on 1500 rpm or more is better.suck more cooler air then exhausting.
if you can put one more top 140mm intake that will be a very nice...
As long as there is flow through your case, you should be fine. The bottom intake/top exhaust provide that. If it were me, I might move it to the front, but there's no need to worry about it; since you already have flow, you might see a 1C-3C difference, one way or the other. It's up to you.

more cooler air inside the case help to make temps down when fans like gpu and cpu heatsink fans got more cooler air.
Think when your case is already a freezer then where is the chance of heat and the the less heat produced by parts will be sucked out by back fan.
1.top intakes fro cooling down CPU,ram, motherboard area.
2.side intake and bottom intake for gpu cooling.
3.front intake for HDD bay and direct hit of cooler air for PSU.
the more cooler air inside the case means cooler temps.
normally people say hot air goes up.yeah in open areas but in a closed chamber NO.the top of your case is top of case not of your room.room is a big space then case so where your case is there is cooler air suck it in the case and use it better.i hope this will help you.😀
remember to select the best answer.that will help others to make quick selection coz that will mark this thread as "Sloved"

sir.believe it or not i did use both ways.and top intake way put my temps 7-10 C down. sharing my personal experience not fighting physics.by the way airflow is a purely physics fight.😀
