I have a huge problem with my 4870. It works fine in the bios, on the windows loading screen, in safemode, and on a normal desktop(without the drivers installed). Once I install the drivers, the card makes it through post, the bootloader and the windows loading screen fine.Unfortunately, were the logion screen should be, I get a blank black screen. The monitor still has input though. Typing in my password and pressing enter does nothing.

Is the card dead?
Is there anyway that I can tell for sure that the card is dead?
If the card isn't dead, what's wrong?

For the hell of it, try to plug the screen into the other DVI port, i have seen this happen in rare cases.

So you did full uninstall the drivers and reinstall?

Can you try the card in someone else system to rule it out.?

If all else fails, maybe the card has failed.

Well apparently I have been struck with this bug.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=ati+++logon+screen+black+4870&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

From what ive gathered so far, There is absolutely no way to fix it.
Wish me luck! (Im screwed)

If the card were dead you would not get any video. you need to load into safe mode and uninstall the drivers, run driver cleaner and install different drivers.
