hey guys,

looking to upgrade from my ol' reliable 1060 to the 4070 Super. i'm wondering if my 550w PSU is enough? it's a Seasonic GX Focus Gold, which is pretty decent. NVIDIA website says the 4070 Super needs 650w minimum, but i'm guessing that's on the safer side?

the rest of my setup is an i5-9400F, 16GB of RAM, a couple of hard drives, an SSD drive for OS, and the usual fans.

basically, i'm just looking for a decent 1440p experience (i already have a 1440p monitor), nothing too crazy.

your inputs are appreciated! thank you! 😊

No, thats the "minimum". you cant go lower than what they suggest.

Also considering your PSU isn't brand new (?) (even if it were, you'll still have issues with 550W), you'll probably end up with power issues, system shutdowns, etc, so you need a better PSU to accommodate the new GPU.

EDIT: Go with a decent quality unit with good reviews about it on the web, and go with at least the minimum that's suggested for your specific card. Don't cheap out on the PSU!

all 3rd party manufacturers i've seen claim 750w is the minimum required.
maybe the Nvidia manufactured model uses less power for it's blower fan, lack of OC, etc?

what specific make/model card is it?

likely not enough for maximum performance.
keep an eye out for speed throttling, artifacts, etc.

i would be upgrading the power supply for sure.
