Is my 620W PSU enough?

I just recently purchased an i7 920, evga x58 mobo, 6gb ddr3, 300gb velocirapotr hdd, and i have a gtx 275 on the way. I also have a storm sniper case which has several fans if it makes any difference. I don't know much about volts per rail and all that so I'm curious whether or not I can safely build this PC with a corsair 620 psu or if I should upgrade to something like a 1000W.

I recently ordered one of these, and the quality is apparent just from opening the box, namely by the beautiful braiding of the cables and the fact that it comes in a velvet wrapper. Reviews say it can pull over 920W at 80% efficiency and stable voltages.

At some point I will definitely upgrade. I just want to know if for now I can safely power up, and use, the system with said components using a Corsair HX620w.

You should be able too. But isn't the 650W Corsair a bit cheaper? Or did you want modular?

I'm certainly no expert, but I think it should boot and run just fine it the configuration listed above. Before you do any overclocking or adding other expansion cards, I would run a stress test in stock mode. If it fails, you can immediately suspect your power supply.

Check out corsairs website i typed in a !7 OC / 295 OC / and 2 HDD. it recomened a 620 650 750TX 750HX I would run it and if it give you problems go to the 750. If you dont sli THOS 275s you should be fine.

Thanks for the help, all. Yeah, I already have the HX620 (probably should have been more clear about that); I just wanted to avoid buying a new power supply as well if I didn't need to.

dub, would you mind pointing me in the general direction of how to go about running that stress test? I'm savvy with some things and a complete newbie with others.

Some folks use IntelBurnTest and other prefer Prime95.

Do a google search for discussions on these two options and how to properly use them.

I personally like Prime95/Orthos or OCCT. Use a temp program to keep track of your thermals while stress testing.

Your system will be just fine with that 620W Corsair. You would probably be O.k even using two GTX275s in that system (though expect more fan noise from the PSU). After all, unlike cheaper units the Corsair actually can output 620W 😀. For that system with one GTX275 your PSU is more than enough.
