Recently my buddys r4 was having problems freezing and error code kept getting some errors for Alienware command center. I googled it told him to remove it and what not, he just decided to get a new one. I mentioned to him hey if you wanna get rid of that like 100 bucks or something ill take it. My daughter needed a pc for her birthday but she doesn't play anything extensive. Animal jam and what not. trying to do fortnite. So he said yeah its just sitting thereso I got it from him first to see if I could fix it.
I had a few problems on the general factory reset a couple freezes. But ever since the first night it seems to be running smooth. Its an i7 4820 with a gtx 690. Now that ive told him its running pretty good hes telling me he wants 300.....anyways. I know the gpu is garbo. But im wondering if the cpu will hold up if I got say a 1070 or something. another 300-400 bucks. which would put me at around 700-800 dollars. Im torn right now checking out pc's for sale on craigslist. Should I keep the r4 and upgrade the gpu will the older components bottleneck me?
Is usb3.0 that important the r4 doesn't have it. Or would I be better to pick up something like this. this guy wants 750$. theres a few others around this price with basically same components.
HP Omen i7-7700 3.5Ghz Gaming Computer 16GB RAM GTX 1070

Gotta know in a couple of days so any info is much appreciated.

Not worth it.

I would ask you to wait for the ryzen 3000 series. But if you can't wait that long,

Case psu and mobo are all compatible with high end products for upgradability.

Solution
The 4820k is ivy bridge based, aka the 3rd gen. The platform is already dead with all the new cpu requiring a new mobo. So don't waste money on a dead platform.

My build is still @ 600 bucks, so the first thing I would upgrade to first is to the ryzen 3000 series. Then I would be looking at a gpu monitor upgrade deal.

The ryzen 3000 series when oc'ed should be pretty great for 144hz gaming. All current gen, latest!
