Is my build too overkill?

Solution
I would say 120fps is fezzable. You may only want two r9 280s because 3 will have significant compatablility issues

2 gtx 770s can run it at 120 fps. Last thing is to make one edit you may want to go with NVIDIA and their deal is atm to get free Witcher 3 if you get anything in the 900 series.

So two r9 280s or 960s would be fine Bioshock and metro will give no problems and bf hardline is good.

Everything else looks good from CPU to PCI so gl building this.

It's actually absolutely unbalanced IMO... For how it's built, you're going to be editing/encoding videos and doing CAD renderings like a madman with that thing, while gaming remains an extra...

Drop X99 and go for a more common Z97 paired up with an i5/i7 4690k/4790k. Drop DDR4 and go for DDR3 @1866mhz or higher (make sure the voltage is 1.5v up to 1866, and 1.65v above it). The advantage provided by both in gaming and compared to their lower counterparts is truly minimal.
Drop the liquid cooler unless you're going to do some insane overclocking and get a Noctua air-based heatsink.

Sink the extra money you'll save into a SLI/Crossfire system (two way, possibly, or three way if you're prepared to experience a couple issues every now and then, either with GTX 970s or 290xs). Drop the case to something less pricey (sheesh, 200$+ for a case? Plenty of towers/mid-towers with plenty of space and half the price), and get a 120hz monitor if you want 120fps. The rest looks OK.

You'll pretty much have a DEFINETLY better gaming experience for the same cost, if not for less...
Happy dreaming ;-)

Ok honestly i really don't care about price anymore, i just want power. I will actually be using this for photography and cad in the future though. Ive changed it around a bit, instead going for 2 290x. Will 2 of these run modern games ultra above 100 fps?
