is my card burnt?

I plugged the six pin connector to my GFX card , fans started running and then the six pin connector slot started showing g smoke, I reconnected it , GFX card fans were running fine , I tried it second time too , it showed smoke too, is it burned? I see no black spots on card but smell comes from the 6- pin connector slot , pls tell, my card is XFX HD R 7870

That should not happen. If the card has a warranty get your money back.
If your stuck with the card just try it out and see if it works.

Sounds offhand as though you have a short in your graphics card but it may be that a wire is very loose (which causes a lot of heat). Check the wires going into the 6 pin connectors - you might shake the graphics card a little to make sure nothing conductive got inside. Also, make sure your graphics card is fully seated, a loose card can cause issues like that also
If one more attempt brings the same result, I would contact XFX about RMA

Well I connected it again without 6 pin connector , it is working fine , now shud I connect 6 pin connector ? Also fans are working fine

I would get another PSU.
Also, do not plug it in while the system is on.
That will pull a lot of current and cause problems.

It will not work. If it works then there is nothing to worry about.

What's the card and power supply?
It may happen that the PSU has a 6 pin connector but is still is insufficient to run the card.
This is especially true if you're using a dual molex to 6 pin connector.
