Is my comp out of date?

heres what i got:
intel p4 2.0 gigahurtz processor
1GB SD RAM
128MB DDR Nvidia GF4 Mx440 SE
Soyo P4IS2 Mobo
60 GB Western Digital HD 7200 rpms

Yes. i am amazed you can even get on the net to post with that
configuration.

Give it to me and buy a new one for yourself. I will even pay for shipping.

The Mx440 are by far the weakest link - replace
it and you are good to go for some time again.

New motherboard that supports DDR would be a leap forward - as would
replacing that POS GF4MX for something like a GeForce FX 5900

SDRAM is slow and old.

Depends what you want to do with it. If it runs everything you want it
to, then no. If it doesn't, then yes, it's out of date.

Is my system out of date?

Asus P2B-F
Intel Celeron 1.4GHz via Slot 1 adapter
768MB Crucial PC-133 ECC SDRAM
128MB Nvidia FX5200 (yeah, a 5200 - not a problem, I'm not a big gamer)

2 36GB Seagate HD 10,000 rpm )
1 18GB IBM HD 10,000 rpm ) All Ultra160 or 320 SCSI
1 9GB IBM HD 7,200 rpm )
CD 32x
CD-RW 52x32x52
no DVD - I'm waiting on Blu-ray :)

Compared to yours, yes it's out of date (in some respects), but it does
everything I need it to do.

Joe

Your comp is totally fine, except for the graphic card that is.
In gaming world - there is no use of mx440 card. In fact, there never was
🙂).
Your CPU is enough. But it's crying for a faster graph. card.
Buy yourself a Radeon 9600XT or Gforce 5700 Ultra or (even better) 5900
non-Ultra, and you will be just fine.

Isnt outa date yet !! just upgrade your graphics card to a better/faster
card ..

Yes it is. Not because of the CPU speed, because he stated it has SDRAM.
An older PC133 SDRAM bus would just limit a new video card as well.

You would have to slap that CPU in a newer DDR motherboard plus a new video
card to see a real benifit.

Download SiSoft sandra to benchmark it, and see how it rates compared to
newer DDR motherboards.

If you bought it more than two days ago...YES! LOL

Eddie

Your CPU is now slow, your vid card old, your HDD small....so what. If it
does what you want it's ok.

What do you do with your PC..???

PC's are never "out of date" until you can't fix them or you can't
find any software to use for them...

In this house, I have 3 PC's...
This one...
XP3000+
1 Gb PC3200
FX5700
Gigabyte 7N400 m/b
XP Pro

The next PC...
XP2800
512 mb PC3200
FX5600
Gigabyte 7N400 m/b
XP Pro

The oldest one...
PII-450
412mb PC100
GeForce2 64mb Pro
Abit BH-6 m/b
Win98SE

All three do the job asked of them.. I have NO intentions of getting
rid of the oldest one either. It still runs the latest nVidia drivers
and never misses a beat. It also plays many of the later games like
Call of Duty, Medal of Honor,, albeit a little slow.. However, when
you play Solsuite on any of the 3 PC's,, you can't tell the difference
from one PC to the others one bit...

It was slow when you bought it. A P4 with SD-RAM is hight crippled.

For using the NET - its fine....

For playing games.... ugh.

Swap out the board, RAM and CPU.

512mb of DDR would easily be faster than your 1GB of P3- era RAM.

$200~240 could get you into a decent Mobo (ASUS or MSI) with an AMD
2500~2800 CPU with 512mb of 333 or 400mhz DDR RAM.
Then put in a video card, at least a 5700Ultra - but for about the
same price - the 5900xt would be better. ($170)

The Pentium 4 just NEEDS fast memory, only from PC3200 it has enough
bandwidth to fully perform at nominal speeds. Just belief me if I say
that SD-ram will make you waiting VERY VERY long while a modern game
of today is loading.

1Gb of DDR is about the "minimum" you need for FarCry for instance!

And enough if said about the fx5200 before...it's a slow card...

BTW, your GF4 MX is severely slow. Do you know that you actually have
no GF4.... but a GF2 wich is slightly updated. A real GF4 supports
DX8, while yours only support DX7

Surely with SD-ram and your GF4 MX you can play games...old games..or
games that are very 3d-limited.... I am sure you see what I mean once
you start the Farcry demo.... your system is a joke to Farcry!

Yep... SD-RAM on a P4 is like a 15~25% performance hit.

>1Gb of DDR is about the "minimum" you need for FarCry for instance!

FarCry runs very good with 512mb - but it runs smooth when the going
gets rough with 1GB... 512mb is fine... if the CPU is there.

Its a poo card.

In the USA of "freedom" a 15yr old boy is disiplined for drawing the
Furor (AKA Pres bush) as the devil. The SS was called as was the
