Is my computer toast?

I leave my computer on most of the time. All was well when I went to sleep. This morning I came in and wiggled my mouse as usual but nothing happend. The display said no video signal. Since I couldn't reboot as usual I did a hold the off button until it turned off then turned it back on. After it restarted all my desktop items were gone and no programs will open. Actually nothing will open except the task manager. Not my computer, not control panel, nothing will open, and I get no error messages. Just nothing happens. Task manager shows whatever I try to open as running but it's not visible.

Power it down (may have to hold the power button until it powers off), once it's off disconnect all cables/devices from the computer, open it up and disconnect all power cables coming from the power supply to the motherboard, video card, drives, etc. Once this is all disconnected press the power button 10 times or so and then immediately hold the power button down for like 30 seconds and then let go. Reconnect all power supply cables, and then all external cables and try powering back on

I think it's ok. Since task manager showed things running I got the idea maybe they are on a different desktop. I opened my network on my laptop and could see all the missing files and folders from my PC desktop. So I was relieved that I didn't loose anything. I was able to get to display settings via right click not via control panel. Anyway the desktop was extended and everything was on my TV display. I don't know how my display settings got corrupted but am glad all is well now. I will run a full system scan to see if I come up with any issues.
