Is my CPU a bottleneck for gaming?

Hi guys
I have a Q6600 comfortably clocked at 3.4GHz on an Asus P5k3 Deluxe with 8 GB of ram. I have an Nvidia 560 ti but want to upgrade to a 970. I was wondering if such an old CPU and motherboard will start to show it's age in terms of gaming FPS even with a new GPU? I'm wanting to play more comfortably on new games at 1920 x1080.
