Is my CPU and Motherboard incompatibile?

I have the i7 8700k and i tried to place it on a gigabyte z270mx gaming 5 motherboard with a noctua dh15, I can't get my PC to Post, it shuts off as fast as it comes on, is this why? Are these not compatible?

Yes, they are incompatible. You must use a 300-series chipset/motherboard with the 8th gen CPUs.
