Question Is my CPU dead?

My friend gave me his old processor and motherboard to upgrade from my awful fx 4100 to a better fx 6300. I replaced the mobo (970A-D3P) just because his was better as well (same socket). All the parts and lights turn on and when i press the power button the graphics card fans spin and everything like the hard drives turn on. But the system doesnt post or even make a beep from the speaker. I tried doing another test of his chip in my motherboard (m5a97 le r2.0) and the reverse but none of them post or make a beep. What could be going on here? And if you need more info i can provide.

If internal speaker connected, try starting the board with no RAMs and see if any beeps. If no beeps, then board or CPU not working, assuming that power supply connected and not defective.
